Since you clicked on the link, opened up this blog, and made it to this page, I want you to go ahead and answer a question real quick.
Be honest. Give your gut instinct answer. Don’t think too hard. Ready for it?
What makes you a badass achiever?
Did you give it a go?
I hope so and I really hope something came to mind, however, if experience has taught me anything, you probably shrugged your shoulders and moved on to the next sentence.
It’s sad, most people’s initial instincts tell them that they haven’t achieved much if anything.
And if they do stop to think about what might be on that list, each item gets shrugged off with the same enthusiasm you just shrugged your shoulders with.
You, lady, have a genius that’s uniquely yours. I know you don’t believe me but let’s take the steps to access it so you can go ahead and create the impact you want!
Step 1: Stop believing the lies.
You know the ones. They’re the little messages that hang in the back of your mind. They might have even been said by others only to land with you in a negative way, even if that wasn’t the attention.
Or they’re the societal standards that you’ve been taught. Or it’s the voice of comparing yourself to what you see in others.
Regardless of where they come from, these messages tell you that you’re average, mediocre, or ordinary at best.
LIES! Lies I tell you!
You aren’t one of thousands. You are one in eight billion. There ain’t nobody like you! Start seeing yourself as the only version of you and you’re on your way to accessing your genius!
Step 2: List what brought you to where you are.
Consider a particular circumstance in your life. For example, let’s talk about your current work status. Think about your last promotion, or perhaps the last time you “moved up” from where you were.
What got you there?
It wasn’t by accident. It wasn’t happenstance. It was an actual set of events and accomplishments that got you here.
Maybe you outperformed others on your team. Maybe you put in enough years of work to prove you can handle the next step. Maybe you volunteered enough time and energy to show your tenacity. Maybe you were headhunted because of your badassery. Whatever it is, you did it.
Think about that for a moment:
You.
Did.
It.
You accomplished it. Not just the big “it” of the promotion or job status, but all of the little “its” that got you there. Every step along the way is an accomplishment. Own it. Label it. See how it makes up part of your genius.
Step 3: Do that again, but for a different circumstance.
Now, do the same thing, but for something completely different. Maybe you ran your first 5k race five years ago. You didn’t just up and decide to run it randomly one day, you had to actually take the steps to allow your mind and your body to accomplish that.
Maybe you started by walking a mile once a week. Then you worked up to a jog. Maybe you raced your kids down the street for practice. You boosted their self-esteem as well as yours.
Do you see where I’m going with this? Again, you took very specific steps to get there, and if you break them apart to see what it is you did, and what you did well to achieve the bigger task, then you’ll find yet another genius.
Psst- Your genius isn’t limited to one area, so this is the perfect way to see how it shows up in multiple forms!
Step 4: Realize what’s common sense to you is rocket science to others.
Have you ever had someone compliment you on something only for it to feel, oh I don’t know, overly generous? You looked at them only to think “That was no big deal.” You might have even said so. You probably brushed it off with an “anyone can do that.”
But the thing is, not everyone can.
There are certain things that come naturally to you. You do them with ease. You don’t even stop to consider that it might take someone else effort.
It’s second nature. It’s common sense to you. It’s just what you do. So, therefore, it can’t be genius, can it?
It can…and it is.
Because that thing that makes total easy sense to you is mind-boggling amazing to someone else. Whatever that thing is, for you, don’t shrug it off. It literally is one of the pieces that make up your genius.
Your Range of Genius
You don’t have a single genius inside of you.
You have an entire range:
Your skills, your attributes, your talents… they’re all a part of what makes you uniquely talented. And when you put them all together, they create a beautiful thing.
That beautiful thing is YOU.
Take some time and look at all the things that make up the equation of you. I guarantee if you do, you’ll start to see that you’re a badass. Not just at one thing, but at loads of things.
And that, lady, is what you bring to the table. Every. Single. Time.
